This directory has been created to assist citizens across the state in becoming more aware of and better able to access local prevention resources. It is our hope that this directory will help unify community groups working to prevent child abuse and neglect and create opportunities for programs and organizations to exchange ideas and resources. This directory includes a wide variety of organizations that work to prevent child abuse and neglect in their own unique way. The focus of this directory is on primary prevention programs that work proactively to stop child abuse and neglect from occurring. Due to the sometimes subjective nature of defining prevention, some of the organizations listed may have prevention components but actually provide targeted intervention with a particular group considered to be at risk for abuse or neglect. In the future we hope to be able to further delineate which programs are purely primary prevention programs, and which are more accurately described as secondary or tertiary prevention. Although this directory lists a wide variety of organizations, it is not all-inclusive.
