01-05-2005 Have Fun with Your Family—Every Day of the Year!
This year you could spend quality time doing a fun activity with your child every day by following the suggestions in the Family Fun Calendar, an annual calendar produced by Prevent Child Abuse Wisconsin. The calendar offers simple activities that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. You don’t need to buy special materials for most of the activities; many of them can be done with ‘found’ or recycled objects.
This year’s calendar is based on the theme: ‘Little Ways You Can Make A Difference’. The calendar has activity ideas that not only educate children about ways they can make a difference in themselves as individuals, but also how they can get involved to help make a difference in their family, community, state, country, and the world. Daily activities include things like ‘talk about who your role models,’ ‘write a poem about peace,’ or ‘make a card for a neighbor.’ In addition to short daily activities, each month also has a more in-depth activity with detailed instructions.
‘In our busy lives it’s easy to forget to make time to spend together as a family, yet spending quality time together is so important for healthy child development,’ said Patti Herman, Executive Director of Prevent Child Abuse Wisconsin. ‘We’re happy to be able to bring this calendar to families as a way to support positive, nurturing, adult-child interactions.’
Anyone can download the calendar by logging on to www.preventchildabusewi.org and clicking on ‘resources.’ You can also purchase a print copy for $4 by calling 1-800-CHILDREN. The calendar is reproducible and local agencies are able to add their own name, logo and local resources to the calendar before they distribute it to families. For a durable calendar you can copy the pages on card stock and have them spiral bound.
